Curious rewards item diversity. You gain +2% XP per unique item, but lose -10% damage per duplicate. The strategy is simple: never buy duplicates, always diversify. With extra loot aliens every wave you have plenty of choice — take different items every shop to stack XP gain and snowball levels.
Enemy health is +25% higher, so you need solid damage scaling. Focus on items that each provide unique utility rather than stacking one stat.
